Maintaining a healthy lifestyle during any festivities, at its best, can be hard. We all take several days off surrounding a holiday, but as many have found, several days turn in to a week and then a month. Before you know it, you've slipped back in to old habits.
In this feature, we look at how to survive the holidays.

Jane as Barbarella

On January 1st, 2002, you probably vowed that "from this day forth, I am going to kick bad habits, go on a diet and start working out with Jane!"
If we were persistent and used exceptional good will power, you are probably in a very good state of health and moving your way to a body like Barbarella's (or Pygar's!)!

So why ruin it now? As we have heard from many viewers, its not the pausing the diet, its the getting back on track that is the problem.

Committing your ideas to paper is probably the best way to make a plan, it brings it to life. Write down what days you will be off healthy eating and not working out - and stick to it! You may split the time; break for holiday and go back on the healthy life style, then take another day on new year's eve.

Many people, and I for one, find that eating a lot for the first time after being on a long healthy eating plan is a huge shock to the system. And can result in feeling sluggish and not wanting to do much exercise (as if that wasn't enough, it is winter, when our body naturally slows down)

Please go easy on your break. Even if you justify eating your forth slice of pie, try to remember how long to took to burn off every calorie! There are 3,500 calories in one pound of fat, and unless Santa is bringing you a spare figure or a Jane Fonda Workout tape, remember it all has to be burnt off come January!
Don't let your guard down either, alcohol increases the appetite and reduces will power. If you have wine with a meal, dry diluting it with club soda

Quick calorie facts to remember...
1 Gram of fat: 9 Cals
1 Gram of Alcohol: 7 Cals
1 Gram of Protein: 4 Cals
1 Gram of Carbohydrates: 4 Cals

Your metabolism can take three days to start slowing down after you've stopped exercising. So if you are planning a long break (or any thing over three days), you might want to try going for a walk each day, which keeps the metabolism ticking over. You could try Jane Fonda's Walkout or use this walking opportunity to spend some time with your family, and lose weight at the same time!

Keep Scrolling Down!

Here's one of Jane's popular recipes,

Chocolate Cheese Cake
Preparation:25 minutes *
Cooking: 1 hour * Serves: 8

In addition to the preparation and cooking times, allow at lease 1 hour and 15 minutes for the cake to cool before serving. This cake satisfies even the most serious "chocoholic". The chocolate makes the cake sweeter than plain versions, but it is still not so sweet that fans of the more tangy cheesecakes won't enjoy it
