 Jane
Fonda's Easy Going Workout (Formerly titled Prime Time
Workout) is a compressive 50 minute class designed for
all ages.
It's perfect for those whose muscles and joints are more vulnerable
and who need
a slower gentler workout. Easy going is also excellent for
anyone who does the New Workout
but simply wants a change of pace as well as for people who
have never exercised, who are overweight, or who may be suffering
from back problems, arthritis, or injuries due to overuse.
This does not mean that Easy Going will not challenge you.
It will increase your strength, muscle tone flexibility, circulation,
and cardiorespiratory fitness.
Easy Going works the entire body, head to toe. It strengthens
and lengthens ever major muscle group. It tones the arms,
waist, stomach, hips, thighs, legs and even the neck and chin.

The
50 minute routine combines extensive stretching and toning
exercises with a brief aerobics section to give your body
a total workout.
The
class is composed of:
4 minute warm-up
8 minute "ballet barre"
5 minute arms
3 minute waist
8 minute aerobic with aerobic cool-down
4 minute hamstring
4 minute floor-stretch
11 minute abdominal, legs/hips, and buttocks
3 minute cool-down
During
the workout, Jane makes allowances for the participant's physical
problems, making the workout enjoyable for many, and not just
for the physically fit. Some of the stretches can be difficult
for beginners, but modifications are demonstrated for those
unable to complete them.

The
class is very user-friendly. Those seeking a change from the
earlier Workout videos will really enjoy the pace and choreography
in
this class. High impact aerobics are included, which may be
a turnoff
to users.
But one student, Hazel performs a much more low-impact version
of the movements.
You may wish to start out following her and then build up
to the movements that involve both feet leaving the floor.
The aerobics are simple and only involve very basic movements,
such as jogging and skipping. While some may be skeptical
using a beginners' class with this type of aerobic choreography,
be assured the movements are very easy-to-follow and build
up to.

The music was performed by "Steps Ahead" and is
very upbeat and classical in style. It sets the pace well
and is perfect to background the moves.

This
tape would best be ranked as a low-intermediate program.
Some of the stretches and the aerobics may be a bit tough
for the new exerciser to handle. But practice does make
perfect. The pace is not too fast but enough to keep you
moving and to build up a sweat. Those who prefer the earlier
Jane Fonda videos will love this. There is a lot of emphasis
on proper posture and form. Exercises performed during the
"barre" and "floor stretches" really
emphasize proper exercise posture and form.
I suggest combining this class with the "Low
Impact Aerobic Workout" and the "Stress
Reduction Program." These 2 videos will compliment
Prime Time very well. When you have reached a plateau with
these videos, move up to the Beginners' Workout in the "New
Workout" and consider combining that with
the "Complete Workout."
If you wish to get more of a background on this Workout
and read up more on how to perform the exercises better,
you may wish to read the companion book, "Women
Coming of Age."

Fonda's Prime Time Workout is the fourth video in the Workout
series. This was designed as an alternative to the Original
Workout back in 1984, and is now one of the most comprehensive
workouts in the Fonda Fitness series.
This
program is nearing its 20th anniversary, and is still as
effective and great as it was when it was first released.
In 1987, the Prime Time Workout was retitled "Easy
Going" when re-released by Lorimar Home Video, likely
in hopes of reaching a wider audience. The introduction
of the tape still appears as "Prime Time."
Inspired by the book, Women
Coming of Age (Click Here for further reading)
