Pure Workout Power - Jane Fonda's New Workout

In my early days of wanting to get fit and burn those pounds, I used the aerobics tape my mum gave me, Jane Fonda's Low Impact Aerobic Workout it didn't take too long before I hit a plateau though. I desperately wanted to continue the voyage to a healthier me. I even tried Richard Simmons! (but Iearned from my mistakes!) Then I discovered an entire range of other aerobic videos in the Fonda Library of Fitness. New Workout was one of them. This is a lightning intense workout which pushed me through and beyond any imaginable plateau, boosted my slow lagging metabolism to a tremendous extent which I still can not believe, and I lost an average of 1 pound a day. If the fat burning wasn't enough, the floor work is amazing. I am still so impressed that this remains my core workout in my daily aerobic fitness routine.

If you are totally unfit, it may be best to do Low Impact Workout for several weeks before starting this program - but its worth it!

The New Workout is split in to two parts:

1. A 35 minute Beginner's class with 12 minutes of aerobics. Waist work, arm work, flexibility and just enough floor work (you get a good stomach, leg, hip and buttock workout, but don't feel too tired)

2. A 55 Minute Advanced class with 16 minutes of intense aerobics. Extensive waist and arm work. With a in depth floor workout which really goes the distance.

Both classes are extremely energetic, you really feel part of it, and may find energy you didn't even know you had. Don't be afraid to shout "woo!" - every one else does, and it adds fun to your aerobic workout. When you've finished the workout, you'll be glowing from the great feeling of fulfillment - you're taking control of your life and health, and no one is going to stop you!
Once you've mastered the beginners section, progress to advanced.

During the aerobic warm-up and cool down section, Leslie Lilien (pictured right) sings "Just Do It" If you can sing along without difficulty you know your breathing properly and not pushing too hard.
The aerobic music, produced by Dean Correa is so alive, it's as if it powers you up to get through the entire class. It pushes you to go that one bit further.

Jane and Leslie lead the class

1. Try to set a regular time to exercise and stick to it. Getting a routine is half the battle.
2. Three times a week on alternate days is the minimum number of workouts you should strive for.
3. Turn off the phone before you start. Momentum is crucial.
4. Empty your bladder.
5. Do not eat within one hour of exercising.
6. Be sure there is no draft and at least a 4 to 5 foot area to move in.
7. Have a glass of water standing by to keep you hydrated as well as a exercise mat or blanket to cushion your back and hips during floor work.

More Information
Realising that the original program was becoming dated even at its young age, Jane revised the choreography in the original Workout and released this video. The program contains a 35 minute beginners class with 12 minutes of aerobics, and a 55 minute advanced class, with 16 minutes of aerobics. Both classes begin with an upbeat warm-up then move to a waist section. Arms and aerobics follow, which include a song sung by the original Workout's Leslie Lilien, who also takes over the role of teacher for one song of the aerobics. Floor stretch and abdominals are followed by leg work, then buttocks. A cool-down ends each class.
